Progressive bass driven beats leads to music clicks review of Dream Theater bassist John Myung
John Myung was born January 24, 1967 in the heartland of the United States. Chicago, Illinois can take the claim. But as a bassist, Chapman Stick player and a founding member of the progressive metal group Dream Theater he is known world wide. He is a virtuoso player who is widely recognized for his technical proficiency and in a poll conducted by MusicRadar in August through September 2010, he was voted the greatest bassist of all time. Although Myung had a reputation as the "mysterious" member of Dream Theater, YouTube has allowed fans to watch the mastery of the bassist. Normally he is very quiet and seldom draws attention to himself in videos or concerts. This has led some fans to jokingly wonder if anyone has ever heard him speak. But of course he mostly lets his bass do the talking. Just check out the grove he can lay down. All joking aside, Myung is, to date, the only member of Dream Theater never to have performed any vocals.
Though the band Dream Theater is his primary musical focus, he has appeared in a variety of projects through his career. His first non-Dream Theater adventure was in the pop-prog band Platypus. He is also a member of The Jelly Jam, which consists of almost the same line-up as Platypus. Apart from his membership in these bands, he has appeared as a guest on numerous records. He also played keyboards in the spoof band Nightmare Cinema as Juice Malouse.
Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band formed in 1985 under the name Majesty. Though a number of lineup changes followed, the three original members remain today along with James LaBrie and Jordan Rudess. Dream Theater has collaborated with many other notable musicians. Guitarist John Petrucci has been named as the third player on the G3 tour six times, following in the footsteps of Eric Johnson and Robert Fripp.
The band's highest selling album is the gold selling Images and Words. Other albums include Awake, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, Systematic Chaos, and Black Clouds & Silver Linings. Along with tons of great music and videos on the Dream Theater Amazon Store , music lovers can protect their devices and customize them with a Dream Theater Music Skin. The diverse and unique sound of Dream Theater is sure to blow you away.
